Son Shine Coons
Maine Coon Cattery
Behind Son Shine Coons...
Son Shine Coons is a family! Every person in our home adores animals and loves what we do! We are Craig and Danielle Hightower. Craig works full time while I, Danielle, am blessed to be able to stay home and focus on our children, home, critters and Son Shine Coons! We live on a piece of property surrounded by beautiful acreage. We are blessed to see God's amazing sunrises and sunsets daily! What a reminder of God's wonderful creation!
While Son Shine Coons started in 2009, Craig and the boys came along in 2021. Our family consists of the four of us, our five dogs (Cajun, Kalani, Kaipo, Kalix, and Melina), 2 Horses (Canyon and Boulder), 4 Nigerian Dwarf wethers (Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi), chickens (egg layers and Son Shine Silkies- check out our Facebook page!), and our Maine Coons (oh, and a partridge in a pear tree!). Our dogs are great with the cats and do a fabulous job helping our kittens raised in our home to be well adjusted with dogs when they leave. The kids also help with that socialization. Our kittens receive snuggle time on the couch regularly as well as as much play as they could hope for! With a house full of chaos, our kittens are no stranger to activity and noise!
Son Shine Coons started with one very handsome silver shaded with white Maine Coon boy, Landon. Landon wasn't part of the plan, however, after tragically loosing our handsome Bengal boy Aslan, we needed a new playmate for our female DSH tortie kitten, Lillian. I did a little research and discovered the wonderful Maine Coon breed! They sounded perfect and just the right personality for our home. Later that day I found sweet Landon! That was December 2008.
In 2009, after researching more on the breed and the standard of the breed, I decided that I wanted to add a breeding pair to our family. I came across Max and Cleo, 7 and 8 month old kittens unrelated who were orginally purchased by a family for breeding. They decided that it wasn't something they wanted to do after all and they wanted to find them a home where they could stay together. It was the perfect fit for us! Max and Cleo came home and several months later they
blessed us with their first litter.
While we never kept a kitten from Max and Cleo, we are blessed to have those lines in our cattery still. Both Calypso and Clementine are descendants from Max and Cleo.
Our cats have been a blessing to us. We have made some fabulous new friends through our babies. Some are breeders who share the same passion that we do. Breeders who treat their cats the same way we do and raise their kittens underfoot as well. We've developed heartfelt frienships with most of our kitten owners. I say this time and time again, but we are blessed beyond words that God has chosen these families to take over loving our babies. We have several Son Shine families who have more than one Son Shine baby. That is such an honor and such a compliment! Knowing that our kittens, the babies birthed in our master bath who we have poured our hearts in to for the first 12 weeks of their life, are now adored just as much by their new families is the only reason we continue to do what we do. Honored and blessed, no other words!
Needless to say, we love what we do and we love being able to share it with you! If you have any questions regarding us, our home, our four legged family, or our breeding program, please do not hesitate to contact us.
